Maths / Linear Equations in Two Variables / Relationship of Coefficients with Number of Solutions

QUESTION

Assertion : x+y-4=0  and  2x+ky-3=0  has no solution if  k=2.

Reason : a_1x+b_1y+c_1=0  and  a_2x+b_2y+c_2=0 are  consistent if  frac {a_1}{a_2}neq frac {k_1}{k_2}

OPTIONS
A.

If both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

B.

If both Assertion and Reason are correct, but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

C.

If Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.

D.

If Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct.

Right Option : B

Reason is true.

For assertion, given equation has no solution if

frac {1}{2}=frac {1}{k}neq frac {-4}{-3}i.e. frac {4}{3}Rightarrow k=2 left [ frac {1}{4}neq frac {4}{3}: : holds right ]

therefore  Assertion is true.

Reason does not give result of assertion.

The experience was nice. I studied here for three years and saw a tremendous change in myself. I started liking subjects like English and SST which earlier I ran from. Extra knowledge gave me confidence to overcome competitive exams. One of the best institutes for secondary education.
